As a rule, all-in-one POS systems will have either a cash drawer or a receipt printer installed in it. Sometimes the cash drawer is hidden under the printer, and other times the unit has fewer features than the printer does, but any single unit is a step up from strictly using cash to make transactions. The cash drawer means you can keep that money separate from your account numbers, which comes in handy for businesses with large bills you need to count out for customers. This is especially true if you have a busy take-out business that accepts more than one type of payment. The only drawback to using a cash drawer is that the cash has to be manually counted. Having this feature means that you have the convenience of having your money right on the checkout counter, and it also ensures there are no discrepancies when counting it.
Receipt Printer
This might be a fairly new development, but every business should have at least one receipt printer installed in its system as well as a mechanism for printing receipts on demand and accepting paper vouchers. If your business handles a lot of cash payments, it would be wise to think about installing an automatic receipt printer. Many all-in-one POS systems can be upgraded to accept credit card slips, which means you can take advantage of many automatic counting and processing features that credit card transaction systems have to offer. You wouldn’t want to preserve the cash and manual receipts you have, but at the same time it’s nice to know that your customers will have their information recorded for taxes and payroll deductions.
